Disabled Block Paving Ramp

It’s really great when you can make a difference to someone else and that is exactly what happened on this job.

Unfortunately here, the man of the house had had a stroke and needed a more gentle way of getting from the front door to the driveway. Whether he will be in a wheelchair or being guided by his devoted wife, this ramp makes a big difference to them both.

First job was to clear the land and take up the old driveway edging. The kerb stones that formed the edge of the step then came out and the step was extended out further for the wheelchair. New charcoal kerbs went in which were a different colour than the originals to form a more defined edge for the eye. The kerbs then started their descent at a gradual rate down to the driveway.

At the top and bottom of the slope, we cemented in some straight edge pale concrete edgers to hold the blocks on the slope exactly where they should be. We also laid the blocks on the slope in a different pattern, to again help their eye guide them up or down.

At the bottom of the slope, we bordered the driveway in the same way that the existing driveway had been and then filled in the remaining blocks.

The final thing to do was to sweep in the driveway sand to finish it all off.

Loved this job!

Concrete Path Base

A very satisfying job this one as the customer had contacted me telling me that he had already had the path done and that it did not match his specification.
So myself and Stuart broke out the old path, which was only 3 weeks old, and set up shutters to the customer’s exact specifications.
We had a mixer lorry deliver the concrete and the path was filled in 10 mins with another 45 minutes tickling it to get it perfect.
The reason it had to be so exact is that this path is the base for Victorian tiles that were to be laid on it.

Customer was very happy which is what it is all about. Do you need yours doing? If you do, you know what to do… Contact us 😉

Stone Circle

This customer was starting the process of doing some landscaping in their newly built property and a few changes were required for the garden.  Having a stone circle is just the first step in their journey.

To work out where to position the circle, we took the centre of the angled fence panel and used a string line and large set square to find the perfect central point. Once the centre was decided, the digging out could commence. In this case the grass and topsoil were moved to another location, otherwise a small skip would have been required. With the sharp sand in, we were able to lay out a few slabs and get things set up nicely before laying the slabs on a compacted sharp sand and cement layer.

At the end, a wet mix of sand and cement was made and all the joints were filled in and swept off.

This job took 2 of us 1 day to complete.

Slab Path

This was a great job for many reasons. The main one being the happiness on the faces of the customers at the end.

The stones were pushed aside to reveal the old wobbly crazy paving in all its glory. Then it was taken up! The area was levelled out and was pegged in various places along the pathway so we always had an aim point to head for.

Some real care was taken to cutting around the circular bricks at the house end and also in the places where the direction of the path had to change to get us all the way around the bend. It was all about bisecting the angles. Very school days.

Stuart and I had this all done and dusted in one day.

Patio Laying

For this customer, we laid 40 square metres of patio slabs. We were constantly dodging the showers but still got the job done for them.  We left the site tidy at the end of each day and as usual, a thorough tidy up at the end, leaving the patio and surrounding area like we’d not been at all.

Finished result was very nice indeed.
